Everyone should learn to code. This nation needs more people who can code for the now and the future. Of all ages from 8 to 80 . Schools are struggling to deliver a curriculum that should be interesting, fun and above all creative. The aim of ‘The Happy Coder’ is to get people across the country coding. Both young and old. To be freely and easily available ether in the comfort of their own home or in groups where support and encouragement is needed.

I want to keep it freely available but to make it sustainable (writing and updating the curriculum). This will require selling the printed version of the curriculum and components online (probably eBay) to support the work and crowdfunding this project plus seeking funding from other sources.

Currently I have trialled this curriculum using facilities at Harrogate Library and Harrogate Ladies College and I have to admit to being surprised at the enthusiasm of teenagers and the older generation. I have used an open source, web based editor using a language called p5.js which is free, and without the need to download any software. It is JavaScript based coding language but its purpose is to use code to create something visual like a piece of interactive art or a simple game but it is a fully functioning high level language of its own. Have a look at the gallery to see some very simple examples.

The Current Future

I am writing the curriculum for most of the above, much of which is in draft form. I would like to create video tutorials (YouTube) for the above to help see visually what the code is and does.
